Inge M. Urbancic, MATESOL, PMP
PATEN was born from my life-long passion to connect communities through travel, education, service and cultural interaction with people and communities from around the globe. Through the field of intercultural competence, I have learned that we can identify ways to create these connections in a meaningful, positive, and inclusive way around the globe. My life-long passion is connecting communities and cultures around the globe through direct experiences of people-to-people engagement through education and travel. The opportunities that I have had studying and living abroad, experiencing different cultures, religions, languages, foods, and values have all made a tremendous impact on my life, and provided the backdrop for me to form and cultivate many friendships with people from around the globe of culturally diverse backgrounds. Through service to, and education of, children and families near and afar, to deep cultural experiences and awareness of different lifestyles in the Middle East, Pakistan, Cuba, Asia, Africa, Europe, and domestically here in the US, these experiences taught me the power of cross-cultural communication, service, education, outreach, and the many benefits that can be formed with those offering a different cultural perspective.
Over the years, I have continued to pursue my passion for connecting communities around the globe, now, with a greater understanding of my role in the world and the importance of providing opportunities for others to connect directly as a result of the rapidly global world and society we are all living in. Through educational initiatives in addition to travel and face to face encounters, I believe that we develop a deeper understanding and connection to people and cultures whose culture and lifestyles may differ from our own. With each experience, I have discovered that behind our differences, we have an opportunity create a greater awareness of self, while understanding and accepting various cultural perspectives resulting in lasting positive behavioral changes, connections, friendships and ultimately peace.
I graduated with a degree and foundation in International Business and Philosophy, with a MA in Teaching English as a Second Language and pursing my doctoral degree in International Education/Education Leaders with a focus on Intercultural Competence as a framework to create these meaningful connections around the globe. Throughout my life and career, I have worked in the education, business, and travel sector field as a professor, teacher, mentor, project manager, consultant, and entrepreneur; creating opportunities to connect cultures and empower women, youth, and families around the globe. My goal is to use these foundational experiences in addition to my educational endeavors to develop a larger voice in the power of connecting communities through intercultural competence and international education.
I invite you to join me in this journey, to use these means of engagements as a way to open your heart and your mind, and fully appreciate, understand, and act. Through intercultural competence development, global travel, education, and outreach, we create real connections that cross cultural borders and make a positive impact in our thoughts, our minds, and on the world around us.
